I engaged a UK company to deliver a 40-foot container to South Africa, and they subcontracted a local South African company called Kings International Removals for the service. Due to complications in obtaining permits, additional charges were incurred, which we accepted and paid.

Once the permits were issued and the container was customs cleared we instructed Kings Removals to transport the goods directly to the delivery address, as communicated to both the UK company and Kings International on October 18th. However, on October 20th, we received an invoice requesting payment for delivery charges. When questioned, Kings International explained that they had to transfer the goods from the port to their own warehouse to avoid additional charges. (Important to note delivery charges had already been paid to Kings to transport goods from shipping bay to our delivery address by the UK company. They obviously want to maximise profits by adding “EXTRAS”)

We disputed this decision, as our original request was for direct delivery to the address to prevent any additional fees. It appears that Kings International decided to store the goods in their warehouse and impose unloading and delivery charges, which we find questionable. The UK company confirmed that Kings International would not release the goods until we paid these fees, which we consider to be unethical and akin to ransom.

Furthermore, we were also burdened with an eight-week storage fee by Kings International. It is also important to note that they may respond with their own explanation, but the fact remains that we clearly instructed them on October 18th to deliver the goods directly to the delivery address. The question arises as to why they deviated from this instruction, unloaded the goods at their warehouse, and charged us storage fees and an additional redelivery charge. We have asked this question multiple times, but they have not provided a satisfactory answer.

I would like to share my experience and advise others to exercise caution when dealing with this company. It is also important to note that the various associations associated with their website may not necessarily provide consumer protection or any help in resolving your issues so unless you are able to engage lawyers stay well away from using this company. It is also crucial to do thorough research before engaging with any service provider, as these associations do not guarantee a satisfactory experience. This company has held us to ransom and caused significant inconvenience. If you are sending your personal belongings be extremely cautious as when they land you will unapproved charges without any agreement in place they have this sense of arrogance where they know they have you’re goods so you’ll have no choice but to pay. There is no such thing as dispute resolution!

The question why the goods had to be stored is simple: No customs clearance was received due to missing documents from the customer. The shipment was not a household & personal effects shipment, but consisted of "donated goods" and these require authorisation from ITAC & an Import Permit. Neither of these were presented by the client - yet our company assisted him by obtaining these on his behalf. At the time we were advised that the client did not have the necessary paperwork, his UK agent had already loaded the container - so postponing the departure of the shipment was not possible. The vessel arrived in mid-October and the final customs clearance was only received mid-December. No prior delivery was permitted by SA Customs and this has been explained ad-nauseum to the client. The shipment had to be stored somewhere until the necessary permits & clearances were received - and in order to save costs (and with the agreement of the client) the decision was taken to unload the contents into a local storage facility as it was cheaper than keeping the shipment in the container for 2 months. That this needed to be paid for, and that there was additional work and transport involved - seems to be incomprehensible to the client.Read more

CEO [Name removed by Sirelo] and employee [Name removed by Sirelo] are frausters, they tamper with your packages, steal stuff, play victim and act like it is your fault. They are extremely racist towards NON whites and very unhelpful. They do not keep you updated nor fill you in with what is going on. Using threats when they tampered with my belongings and lawfully should not touch it unless it's opened by customs.

It's been more than 3 years since we moved, October/November 2015. We haven't stopped recommending Kings in all that time. Our questions were answered thoroughly, the movers were patient with us and took care of our belongings while packing. The agent in NZ was equally good. Better late than never...thank you Kings!

[name removed by Sirelo] and her team was absolutely fantastic. Very professional, helpful, courteous and respectful. They assisted my wife in every way possible and did not make a noise about the tons of questions... 'can we add this…no wait remove this...' etc etc. I am sure at times they wanted to run away from all the mind changing and confusion LOL. They are all true assets to your company and represented your brand in a way that you can be proud of.

Damaged goods at arrival. No compensation and owner not responding to correspondence. Although paid for insurance I doubt whether they actually ensures the shipment. Definitely NO recommendation
